Switching

Switching to DynamxMFG: Moving From Your Current System

What comes across, how long it takes, and what changes for the people who use it every day. Whether you are leaving MRPeasy, Katana, a set of spreadsheets or a legacy MRP, the plan looks much the same: 90 days, in phases, with a UK team alongside you.

Who this is for

You Have Decided to Move. Now You Want to Know How

Most manufacturers who look at switching systems are not short of reasons. The schedule lives in someone’s head, the job cards come back late, or the current tool was never built for a high-mix shop floor. What holds people back is the move itself: the data, the downtime and the worry that the shop floor will push back.

This page answers those questions plainly. It covers what you bring with you, how the 90 days are usually split, how you run old and new side by side, and what each person in the business will actually notice on day one.

The aim is not a big-bang weekend cutover. It is a controlled move where the new system proves itself on live work before the old one is switched off.

Your data

What Moves Across

You do not need perfect data to start. You need the core records, and one person on your side who owns them. During setup we import what you have and help you tidy the rest.

Customers and suppliers

Your customer and supplier lists come across, so sales orders and purchase orders can be raised against the right accounts from the start.

Parts and stock items

Your parts list, with the item details you already hold. This is usually the biggest file and the one most worth a tidy before import.

Bills of materials

Your BOMs, so every job knows what material it needs. BOMs can still be adjusted after a job is released, which matters in a high-mix shop.

Routings

Your main production routings: the operations each part goes through and the work centres that do them. Best estimates are fine. Booked times will correct them.

Your accounts link

DynamxMFG integrates with Sage, Xero, QuickBooks and enterprise systems, so production and finance share one set of numbers.

What you leave behind

Years of closed jobs rarely need to move. Most manufacturers keep the old system or an export for reference and start clean on live work.

Data readiness is the biggest single cause of slippage on any software project. Start the clean-up early and keep the scope to what you use today.

Timeline

The 90-Day Go-Live, Phase by Phase

DynamxMFG goes live in 90 days for UK SME discrete manufacturers because the core system is ready to configure, not built from scratch. A typical move runs in three phases.

Weeks 1 to 4: Discovery and configuration

We map how your shop floor really works, not how the procedures say it works. Where jobs start, how work is prioritised, how materials are allocated. The system is configured to fit.

Weeks 5 to 8: Data migration and testing

Your customers, suppliers, parts, BOMs and routings are imported and checked. Most manufacturers then go live on a defined slice of work, such as one product family, one cell or one shift.

Weeks 9 to 12: Go-live and training

The remaining work comes across, operators and office staff are trained, and the focus moves to making the data reliable enough to run the business on.

By the end of week twelve, the daily production meeting should run from system data rather than spreadsheets. For more detail, read our 90-day implementation guide.

Running in parallel

Old and New, Side by Side for a Few Weeks

The shop floor cannot stop while a new system beds in, so the move is additive at first. Operators start booking onto jobs in DynamxMFG while the old records keep running alongside.

For a few weeks this feels like double work. It is worth it. Parallel running proves the new system is capturing what the shop floor actually produces before you remove the safety net. Planners and supervisors can compare what the system shows with what they know from experience, and any gaps in configuration get fixed while the stakes are low.

Once the numbers match and the team trusts them, you stop updating the old system and run on DynamxMFG alone.

Day to day

What Changes for Each Person

Operators

The operator screen is deliberately simple. Most people learn it in minutes. The complexity sits in planning and reporting, not on the shop floor.

  • Scan or tap to book on to a job
  • Record an operation as complete
  • Flag a quality issue at the point it happens
  • Book off at the end of the job

The real change is habit. Accurate booking on and off is what makes the planner’s view and the job costs trustworthy, so the first four to six weeks are about building that discipline.

Planners and office staff

Less time reconstructing yesterday, more time looking ahead.

  • Live status of every job, without walking the floor
  • Scheduling against the capacity you actually have
  • Jobs trending over their hours visible before they become a problem
  • Job costing at part and job level, with finance on the same numbers

Job costing takes a little longer to settle. Expect usable figures within 60 to 90 days of go-live, provided operator booking has been consistent.

Before you start

You Will Need Wifi on the Shop Floor

DynamxMFG is cloud-based and runs in a browser on desktops, tablets and shop floor terminals. There is no client software to install, but every device needs a working wifi or network connection to book work in real time. DynamxMFG does not have an offline mode.

If your shop floor has dead spots, plan a wifi check in the first phase. It is one of the cheapest things to fix early and one of the most frustrating to discover at go-live.

Support

A UK Team, Start to Finish

TotalControlPro is based in Northampton. The UK team that configures your system supports you through go-live and after it, with onboarding support included, so you are not left with a help centre and a ticket queue.

That matters most in weeks five to twelve, when real questions come up on live jobs and you need an answer from someone who knows your setup.

“Our experience has been positive, and it was definitely worth switching. The support we have received has been extremely helpful. My favourite feature is the integration and automation capabilities.”

Philippos F
Head of Digital Transformation at CPL

“Setting up DynamxMFG was quick, support readily available, easy to use, excellent value for money.”

Liam M
Head of Ops at Maeving

“We chose the system over competitors because of its ease of use, strong customer support and friendly delivery team. So far, everything has matched what was promised.”

Amy M
Head of Operations at Elite Skills Arena

Where you are coming from

Switching From Your Current System

From spreadsheets

You probably have the data, just spread across several files. The first job is to agree which version is the truth. See moving from spreadsheets to MES in 90 days.

From MRPeasy

Your customers, suppliers, items and BOMs are the starting point. The bigger change is adding live shop floor booking against routings. See DynamxMFG vs MRPeasy.

From Katana

The main shift is towards routings, work centres and job-level costing for discrete, high-mix work. See DynamxMFG vs Katana.

From a legacy MRP

Older on-premise systems often hold years of history. Bring across what is live and keep the rest for reference. See replacing legacy UK MRP.

Questions

Switching Questions, Answered

How long does it take to switch to DynamxMFG?

Around 90 days for most UK SME discrete manufacturers. That covers discovery and configuration, data migration and testing, then go-live and training.

What data can we bring across?

Customers, suppliers, parts and stock items, bills of materials and production routings. You do not need perfect data. We import what you have and help you tidy the rest during setup.

Do we have to stop production to go live?

No. Most manufacturers go live on a defined slice of work first and run the old records alongside for a few weeks, so the shop floor keeps running throughout.

How long does it take operators to learn?

Minutes for the basics. Operators book on, record completions, flag quality issues and book off. The bigger change is the habit of booking accurately, which takes a few weeks to build.

Does DynamxMFG work without wifi?

No. DynamxMFG is cloud-based and needs a wifi or network connection on every device. It does not have an offline mode, so check shop floor coverage early.

Who supports us after go-live?

The TotalControlPro team in the UK. The team that configures your system supports you through go-live and after it.
